The market town of Tewkesbury is known for its astonishingly well-preserved medieval architecture, half-timbered Tudor buildings, overhanging top stores and narrow streets and alleyways.
The magnificent 12th century Tewkesbury Abbey dominates the town and boasts the highest Norman tower in England.
Visitors can amble between ancient buildings, taking in the rich history of the town, or hunt out Gloucestershire’s oldest pub, the Black Bear, for a pub lunch.
If history isn’t your thing, the town also has an array of speciality shops, inns and restaurants where visitors can enjoy a cream tea or a pint and sample some of the delicious local food and drink.
Plus, if you visit in February, you can catch the Tewkesbury Winter Ales Festival, a highly anticipated event in the town’s calendar.
You can also enjoy a leisurely boat trip on the river Avon, taking in the acres of beautiful green countryside and picturesque Cotswold villages, and if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can try your hand at canoeing or kayaking.
Situated within easy reach of the Cotswolds, Tewkesbury is also handy for days out in Cheltenham and Gloucester to the south, and Worcester and Birmingham to the north.
There’s a good range of outdoor activities, including golf, fishing, horse riding and cycling within easy reach of the town.
